The Auburn Rubber Company was founded in Auburn, Indiana, in 1915, in order to produce tyres for the Auburn automobile plant, but soon concentrated on other rubber products. In 1935, the company introduced a range of rubber toy cars in different sizes, ranging from 10 to 20 cm length. These models were simple, but quite realistic reproductions of contemporary road cars. In addition to toy cars and trucks, Auburn Rubber manufactured other rubber toys such as tractors, tanks, airplanes, figurines and buildings. Toy production was interrupted during World War II since the factory now made soles, gaskets for fuel containers and other rubber products for the US army, but was resumed after the war. Later Auburn Rubber vehicles were made of vinyl, like the models by Tomte and other European manufacturers. The company was sold in 1959, then moved to Deming, New Mexico, and went out of business in 1969.
